"Protect myself against ignorance"
Recently, I watched a news station report on the growing discrimination and prejudice that Muslims are experiencing in the Bay Area, particularly since the "war on terrorism" that our government leaders have waged. One man interviewed by the news reporter said that as a Muslim he must now watch every word that he say just because anything out of his mouth could be misconstrued and misinterpreted by somebody stupid. Well, he didn't say "somebody stupid" but he did say he wanted to protect himself "against ignorance". Is it possible for us to find the right kind of armor to protect ourselves against something so ferociuos, infectious, and debilitating? Why is it that we are so easily infected by Ignorance? How do I get innoculated against it? Where do I get prescription drugs to prevent myself from being infected? It really isn't fair that someone who exhibit signs/symptoms of ignorance should invade my sanctuary, my private life, with his/her ignorance. But, the sad reality is that given the larger circle of life in which we live, this disease is one epidemic we can not eradicate.
