HAT holds an MFA from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, and was a Fulbright Fellow to Viet Nam in 2004. She works at Washington University School of Law, and also serves as the poetry editor of Cedars, an online literary journal of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. HAT currently lives in Webster Groves, where she blogs periodically to say the music is askew, the poetry slanted, church and faith tangled, and identities are hybridized.

Dragons in Our Lives

"Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love." -Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet, Letter 8, 1904

Incompleteness in Absence

"Today I begin to understand what love must be, if it exists. When we are parted, we each feel the lack of the other half of ourselves. We are incomplete like a book in two volumes of which the first has been lost. That is what I imagine love to be: incompleteness in absence." Edmon de Goncourt (1822-1896)
